Jog Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India. The Western Ghats gives rise to the Sharavati river that plunges from a height of 829 feet in four magnificent cascades namely Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. Jog falls, being the tallest waterfalls in India is situated in the dense evergreen forests, 16kms from Talguppa nearest railway station, Shimoga district, Karnataka.

  • Jog Falls is the highest waterfall in India. Unlike other waterfalls, the Jog Falls directly plunges and does not stream onto rocks. The waterfall finds its origin in the Sharavathi River and falls from a height of 292 metres. The falls is also known as Gerusoppe Falls. The Sharavathi River cascades down in four distinct falls - Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket, each merging together to form the huge waterfalls and presenting a picture of grandeur and is a roaring treat to ones eyes.
  • The Raja Falls peacefully streams down; the Rani Falls follows a winding path, the Rover Falls bursts out of a rocky stretch, while the Rocket Falls gushes out in high speed remaining true to its name. The natural beauty and the forestry around add to the beauty of the falls and create a picture of natural abundance. The falls with its natural beauty is also a popular site among film makers and is the location for many film shootings.
  • The Jog Falls is one of the most well-known tourist sites in the state of Karnataka. The uniqueness of Jog Falls lies in the fact that the water does not flow down in a tiered fashion. There are viewing points to see and enjoy the water fall. There is a hydro electric power generating station named after Mahatma Gandhi.
  • The area around it with its many forests and the Swarna Nadi River is worth a visit though. You can spend an entire day around the waterfall. If you hike the way down to the base of the fall, taking a dip in the water when you are in the gorge will be worth tour while. A drive to the other side of the Jog Falls can get close to the falling water. The Sharavati valley, which is a little further down the national highway, affords breathtaking view.
